LOOK BELOW FOR CONFERENCE MP3s
Beginning with a vision to effectively reach the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in America with the gospel message, African American Resources Ministries (AARM) was formed as a conduit for financial resources and practical training for those with a heart to accomplish this mission. One of the most fertile and largely untapped "harvest fields" in this country is to be found on the 112 HBCU campuses in our nation. With very few exceptions traditional campus ministries, through effectively working in universities in every state, are simply not present on the black campuses. This opportunity inspired Brett Fuller, the founder of AARM, to begin looking for ways to recruit, equip, and support qualified black men and women for ministry on the HBCU campus.
The challenge for many qualified African American men and women with a burden for campus ministry is the limited "pool" of financial resources from which to draw. The process of raising personal support through networks of relationships and personal contacts can be far more limiting for black students than for their white or Asian counterparts. AARM was founded, in part, to "link up" qualified young ministers with those who have resources to support their mission. It is the goal of African American Resource Ministries to raise up and help establish 100 young people as ministers to the HBCU campuses by the year 2010.
But the burden and responsibility to proactively effect African American community doesn’t end with missions to the HBCU campus. The broader challenge facing our society has to do with the human treasure-the untapped resources in the lives of those growing up in our inner - cities. To this end, AARM was conceived as an instrument for helping effect change and cultivating opportunity. As a conduit for financial resources and as training/equipping ministry, AARM looks to support people of all ethnic backgrounds who are laboring in our inner - cities to make a difference in the lives of African American youth, children, and families. Teachers in after-school learning centers, mentors in community support groups, ministry teams working to "plant" churches in the inner - city-all are worth while efforts aimed at changing the character and quality of life for those who live in these urban environs.
AARM is about "resources" and "ministry" to the African American community. Funding and fund raising, equipping and training for ministry, recruiting and encouraging people as ministers-all define the mission of African American Resource Ministries. Even beyond this is the challenge to return something of lasting value to the African continent itself. For centuries, Africa has been a source of incredible commercial wealth and manpower to the nations of the world. Slavery, in the centuries was practiced by European powers and the United States, was instrumental in establishing their powerful economies. Today, however, the continent- and especially equatorial Africa- suffers under a poverty of spirit that only Christ can fully address. Here, too, AARM looks to support in practical ways-with both financial and people resources-efforts to impact the social and spiritual climate of this continent.
Giving rise to the mission of African American Resources Ministries is a deeper, underlying vision for the well being of America as a whole. While matters of racism and civil rights have been confronted in our nation, the meaning and implications of reconciliation have been largely over looked, or avoided. The division between black and white is more social than economic; it reaches deeper than issues of equal opportunity and fairness. Reconciliation addresses our racial divide at its vital, spiritual core. The message of reconciliation and the practical steps leading to it must be defined and articulated. Corresponding, strategies need to be developed that will inform business, government policy, and social disclosure. The "moral and ethnical high ground" of reconciliation needs to be set forth and the practical steps which will bring it about enumerated. To this end, AARM seeks to establish a " center for reconciliation strategies" – a "think tank"- to promote and shape this direction for vital social change over the next 2 decades.
Simply put AARM has a five “fingered” focus;
Provide financial resources to those reaching into the African America Community
Provide Educational resources through scholarship and seminar to equip people for the work of ministry
Support missions to both African American community and the continent of Africa
Assist in raising up 100 young people to reach the historically Black Colleges and university campuses of America by 2010
Host a think tank for the development of solutions to directly repair the infrastructure of Black America and indirectly help all of America.
African American Resource Ministries has been created in the Spirit of Christ to serve the up building of African American people. In effect, it is an organization aimed at serving those who are servants by providing a measure of supply- of "resources"-needed for the task. Ultimately, it is the aim of AARM that generations will benefit from the investment and equipping that is done today.
To date AARM has granted scholarships to 35 students which enabled them to attend the Every Nation Graduate School of Campus Ministry. The scholarship provides one half of the funds, (which is $6,000) necessary to afford the students to receive the foundations they need to develop a successful ministry to generations of students. In addition, the training they receive includes a one-semester practicum in ministry on campuses such as USC, UCLA and Cal State Long Beach.
Internationally, AARM provided funds to invest in the future of young African nationals who desire to be campus leaders in their native country in South Africa. AARM provided $72,000 to aid these ministers with a financial start that will prayerfully deploy them to full time campus ministry.
These young leaders are trained with the principles and practices necessary for effective ministry to national and international students on any campus around the world.
AARM also provides $300 scholarships to African American students desiring to attend the Every Nation world conference to witness and embrace what God is doing all across the nation. To date, we have provided scholarships to approximately 275 students who otherwise did not have the financial resources to attend the conference.
AARM needs both prayer and financial support to continue the effective work it does to continue to raise up the generation’s next leaders.
